User Experience Director

But you have a knack for making things work. You understand users and what they're looking for, and we'll be relying on you and your team to make sure that all of our work is as effective as it is beautiful.
Modea is a young but growing digital agency. In fact, we were just featured in the INC Magazine list of the fastest growing privately owned companies in the United States. And that growth hasn't happened by accident. It's the result of attracting and employing some of the industry's most talented writers, developers, designers and thinkers. And we're looking for a User Experience Director to join our team.
Designing for the web is about creating the perfect balance between form and function. Beautiful visual design that isn't grounded in reason or purpose won't be as effective, and that's where UX comes in. As a User Experience Director, you'll be an advocate for the user and set the UX vision and goals for projects. By working alongside an Art Director and lead Creative Developer, you'll carry that vision from conceptualization to implementation. You’ll be involved every step of the way to ensure your visions are transformed into websites and applications that people love to use.
We're looking for a problem solver who has a passion for crafting innovative and elegant experiences with no detail overlooked. We want technology geeks who love to learn and are curious about how things work and why. Beyond just being a learner, we're looking for teachers who want to shape the way that an entire team of people think about the web.
Responsibilities
Define and lead user-centered design processes and approaches for large-scale projects.
Work with clients to gather requirements and translate business goals into features.
Collaborate with Strategic Planners to define use case scenarios.
Conduct user research to shape the UX strategy at the beginning of the creative process.
Oversee the creation of site flows, wireframes, and prototypes.
Lead internal and client-facing presentations.
Oversee the execution of the project through implementation to ensure the UX vision is carried through.
Stay on top of technology trends, the latest devices and software, and user experience best practices.
Requirements
Minimum 5 years relevant experience as a UX lead or UX designer (agency experience highly desirable).
Extensive experience with UX research methods and best practices.
Extensive experience in interface design, web design, and mobile design (especially iOS).
Excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills.
A natural leader able to work with teams across all disciplines.
Knowledge of web best practices and design patterns.
Proficient in wireframing and prototyping tools (such as Visio, Omnigraffle, Axure, or iRise).
Expert in Adobe Photoshop.
A strong understanding of HTML and CSS and familiarity with Javascript.
Knowledge of design, typography, and color theory a huge plus.
Degree in visual arts and design, human factors, human computer interaction, or industrial design.
Unparalleled attention to detail.
Portfolio of relevant UX work that shows off your talents.
You must be authorized to work in the US full-time at our offices in Blacksburg, VA
