Full-time Senior Designer - User Experience

Position Summary
If you’re a world-class Senior Graphic Designer, and you’re looking for a chance to help guide the marketing design for one of the most successful retailers on the Internet and communicate with the largest customer base in the world, then we want to talk to you.

The Senior Designer will take a lead role in the design of marketing communications that will turn these goals into reality. Working closely with our Marketing clients, Marketing Creative Director, Design Director and Art Director you’ll be responsible for establishing and driving the overall strategy for design and execution of online and offline marketing campaigns and projects. You will need to develop design solutions that will work across a wide variety of channels (online, print, signage, point of sale and packaging) that will maintain brand consistency and create the best experience for our customers. You must have the ability to understand marketing objectives and translate them into design solutions and be as comfortable brainstorming different conceptual approaches to a campaign as you are driving through to completion of major projects that comprise that campaign.

In addition, the Senior Designer will also serve as a mentor to junior design staff, taking leads in meetings, process, and design approaches, especially (but not exclusively) in AD’s absence.

Position Description
1. Design (60%)
• Hands-on design approach -- must be able to work with marketing clients, creative director, design director, art director and copywriter to conceptualize and execute online and print marketing campaigns that will advance the company's merchandising, business, marketing, or branding objectives.
• Will sometimes take direction from design lead(s) but will often work as a design lead and serve as a point of contact in project planning for online marketing design activities with marketing managers and producers
• Good understanding of Walmart.com’s brand and design standards for creative applications as well as a strength in systems design (i.e. extending a campaign across various vehicles).

2. Production/Other (30%)
• Produce specifications for HTML and consultations with producers, HTML and email teams to implement designs.
• Provide production support as needed.
• Must have the analytic capacity to organize directories, project files and assets in consideration to team members.
• Assist marketing and executive team members with presentation preparation and general support.
• Develop, research and frequently leading best practices for overall team efficiency.
3. Management/Leadership (10%)
• Assist marketing and executive team members with presentation preparation and general support.
• Develop, research, and implement best practices for overall team efficiency.
• May guide and teach intern, Associate Graphic Designer and Graphic Designer; learn to manage.
• Participate in formal and informal design critiques, give effective feedback to peers.

Minimum Qualifications
1)Competencies: Skills, knowledge, & abilities

Functional Competencies:
• A command of typography, color, composition, hierarchy, and an understanding of how these elements work together for a design solution.
• Ability to create multiple solutions to a marketing creative problem that consistently meet business and communication objectives outlined in a creative brief. Create accurate, clear specifications for HTML and production.
• Consistently adhere to team processes and standards; contribute ideas for improvement.
• Has a strong understanding of user-centered design and navigation structures.
• Understand the components of an identity system, and contributes identity solutions. Can create a style guide. Understand the Wal-Mart brand and the importance of on-brand design, and is able to develop projects and concepts that are on-brand.
• Make solid recommendations about which design issues are critical.
• Understand the importance of flexibility and the balance of speed and quality.
• Produce multiple concepts for a project, and is able to discern and articulate which ideas are most valid and worth pursuing.
•Solid knowledge of the constraints of online (banner/email) and print design. Research and explore best practices in online marketing design.
• Complete knowledge of Illustrator and PhotoShop, In Design, Quark Xpress. Experienced with HTML, Office Suite, Acrobat. Flash knowledge is a plus.

2) Experience:
• At least 5 years of professional online and offline marketing design experience
• Including at least 2 years of professional web and/or print design experience.
• Retail/e-commerce background is preferred.
• Some supervisory experience a plus

3) Minimum educational level:
• A college degree in Graphic Design, Interaction/ Digital Design, or other Communications Design-related field preferred.
• Marketing courses are a bonus.

4) Physical Requirements:
• Able to travel to home office in Bentonville, AK, Kansas City, MO, or Dallas, TX, for marketing meetings 1-4 times per year.
