Full-time Director of UX

at Haas and Riley Executive Search in New York

Our client is a world wide health and wellness marketing agency. They are searching for someone who can bring their vision and mentoring skills to their Manhattan based team.

The Director of UX will set the vision for the discipline and contribute directly to the strategy and execution of the user experience products and services we deliver to clients. The vision is to have UX synthesize functionality, business savvy and imaginative/innovative design to create an aesthetically pleasing presentation of scientific data and intuitive, engaging experiences for professional and consumer end users.

The ideal candidate will collaborate with stakeholders to understand business and technology opportunities. This knowledge, in combination with an understanding of user/market trends, will be used to ideate, synthesize, and develop a unique experience across all digital channels (e.g. websites, microsites, distributed content, emails, mobile, social networks, sales force tablets, digital presentations, etc.)

Responsibilities:

Core Discipline
• Create the vision for developing, communicating, and implementing the user experience and associated UI framework aligned with brand, marketing, and business objectives.
• Provide innovative, customer centric, information and visual design recommendations that contribute to an enhanced user experience.
• Create and maintain user experience documentation such as competitive site analyses, user personas, site maps, detailed navigation flow, and detailed functional wireframes.
• Lead, mentor, and work collaboratively with UX Design team to conceptualize, design, and implement ideas.
• Define, approve and enforce the user experience design and best practices standards.
• Design and conduct user-centered design research, identification of user needs and goals, and usability testing such as rapid iterative usability testing and design, heuristic evaluations, and in-depth usability testing.

Management
• Manage the User Experience team priorities, establish level of effort estimates and manage the team accordingly.
• Build motivate, challenge, and inspire team members to deliver on expectations and goals, while fostering a creative, efficient and collaborative team environment.

Cross-Agency Collaboration
• Work strategically with other executives and team members across the organization, particularly with account and digital strategy leads to sell in our digital services to our clients.
• Partner with others in the strategic (strategic planning, digital strategy, channel planning, analytics), creative (art, copy), technology, SEO and project management disciplines to develop and extend the user experience offerings across the array of agency offerings.
• Work in conjunction with the analytics staff to define and execute reporting and performance metrics that inform design/UX optimization efforts and larger business objectives.

Requirements:

Education
• Bachelors required or years of professional experience in Human Factors, Psychology, Design, User Interface design, or related field. Masters degree preferred.

Experience
• A minimum of 10 years experience designing high-quality online solutions and working with a cross-functional team of user-centered designers and business stakeholders.
• A minimum of 3-5 years of management experience, overseeing a successful UX team of both strategic and creative resources

Demonstrated Core Discipline Skills
• Strong user experience skill set – experience strategy, information architecture, and design aesthetic, digital measurement and optimization
• Demonstrated ability to develop both big conceptual ideas and scientific/technical data visualizations and execute against them to create innovative user experience solutions in a highly collaborative, creative environment
• Thorough understanding of best practices in web, mobile, and social design and user interface/information architecture conventions
• Strong knowledge of UX deliverables such as site maps, wireframes, flow charts personas, functional specifications, and style guides
• Solid experience developing, guiding and managing user research and usability testing.
• An informed set of core values regarding user experience, technology, and business communication – and the ability to present them with eloquence and concision.

Demonstrated Other Skills
• Strong relationship skills and the ability to influence clients and internal agency stakeholders to obtain buy-in for your designs.
• Highly organized, strong attention to detail, excellent verbal and written communication skills.
