ABOUT HPMG/AOL
The HPMG/AOL user experience & design team handles the user experience and continuous innovation across a suite of 50+ sites, including Engadget, Moviefone, MapQuest, AOL.com and The Huffington Post. Our responsibilities include: brand development, large scale web platforms, mobile experiences, Flash development, video experiences, and advertising support (pitches/concepts, custom integrations). We are focused on building groundbreaking interaction design and world-class visual design. As a member of the user experience design team, you would join a team of top designers and be a direct contributor to the day to day graphics, more comprehensive visuals and interactive features we develop in the evolution and aesthetic improvements to the site.
SUMMARY
The Huffington Post Media Group (HPMG) is looking for a Sr. UX Designer with unique abilities and experience focused on social news media to support the breadth of design execution across the .com site and related editorial content. As a Visual Designer you will provide design execution and delivery on web and interactive projects, contribute to mobile design initiatives and TV platforms. Working in collaboration with technical and editorial stakeholders you will support execution and delivery of solutions that balance user needs with business goals and technology capabilities. You will also seek to exploit the opportunities for innovative visual design offered by new and emerging technology and social platforms. We are looking for someone who will have the design experience and flexibility to execute on quick iterative releases yet still have a passion for design being pixel perfect and have established aesthetic.
EXPERIENCE
• Work with Art Director/Creative Director to complete design elements of projects according to an agreed brief (i.e. schedules, resources etc.) with a high degree of independence delivering innovative, engaging and world class design solutions
• Work with key senior editorial staff, reporters, researchers and client side programmers to conceptualize and produce rich visual narratives and interactive experiences.
• Stay up-to-date with trends in visual communication, especially web design standards and social news and media sites.
• Work with internal project stakeholders to define information architecture, navigation, labeling and design standards for visualizations & interactive features.
Must be attentive to detail and able to identify gaps and friction points that contribute to a poor user experience (cross-browser issues, cross-platform issues)
• Take a user-centered approach in concepting and crafting design solutions that meet both user needs and product strategy requirements
Must be attentive to detail and able to identify gaps and friction points that contribute to a poor user experience (cross-browser issues, cross-platform issues)
This position is responsible for creating compelling social news experiences, showcasing the real-time interactions on a page and supporting a host of graphic production in support of the 30+ vertical category sites that are currently part of the core of The Huffington Post. The site is in the midst of a monumental growth curve and as a result we are increasing the designers in support of the various category properties from new feature banners to design and development of new sections, modules and apps. As has been written in the press we are now set to expand to europe and in multiple languages so we need a team that can grow with us.
QUALIFICATIONS
• Bachelor's degree in Graphic Design with emphasis on Media Design, Interactive Media, Information Design or related equivalent combination of education, training and experience.
• Minimum 5+ years experience or equivalent work in graphic design or interaction design or related field.
• Candidates must be proficient in Adobe CS4 tools (Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign, Flash) and have an understanding of HTML5 and CSS3.
• An added plus to have proficiency in OmniGraffle/Axure for Wireframes/User Flows.
• Must be highly organized with strong attention to detail with ability to self manage and work independently in some cases of the larger UX group
• Must be a good multi-tasking person, able to prioritize personal workload and deliver against deadlines with minimal guidance and moving delivery dates.
